RIO products is pleased to announce the launch of “Skagit MOW Tips”- a dynamic new tip collection that makes casting sink tips exceptionally easy. MOW Tips are based on the type of sink tips that Skagit maestros Mike McCune, Scott O’Donnell and Ed Ward have designed and used for years. Not only are the MOW tips exceptionally easy to cast, but they also give anglers far more precision in depth control than has ever been possible in the past. There are three different sets of MOW tips scheduled for release each featuring six different tip densities. The Medium and Heavy Skagit MOW Tips will be available from May 1st, with the Light MOW tips scheduled for release August 1st. For full product details click here.
DualTone DualTone is a system perfected by RIO that marks the sweet spot of a fly line by providing an obvious color change in the line and giving anglers a reference point of where a particular line loads their rod and how much line to strip in before making a cast. This year we have changed the RIO Grand to incorporate this feature and bring it into line with the RIO Gold and WindCutter II lines that have always been built with the DualTone system. Our new Trout LT and Indicator lines also feature the DualTone system, as does the new color RIO Gold.
The design of every fly line taper, its most likely application and each line size are all carefully taken into account and the location of the color change is unique to each individual fly line. We test each line on a selection of rods and find the ideal place where the rod loads and begin the color change there. With the DualTone system it is easy to see how much to strip in, where to pick up a cast, how much line to hold in the air when false casting and when to make the final cast.
Welded Loops RIO was the first company to manufacture all its premium lines with a neat welded loop in the front end. Due to popular demand, RIO now also puts a welded loop in the back end of each premium trout, specialty and saltwater line. There is no quicker way to rig a fly line than to tie the backing to a loop with an improved clinch knot (or by using a large loop in the backing – allowing lines to be switched quickly) and the new rear welded loops from RIO allow an angler to do just that. Never before has it been so easy or fast to rig a new fly line to a reel and get out fishing!
